Combines MF 550 manual trans keeps jumping out of gear

Just went through this on a 550, twice. Overhauled the transmission, twice. The second time had to put two new gears in because they were chipped from banging it in gear to try and fix it, so make sure you fix it right away. Anyway, to cut to the chase. Our problem ended up being the square linkage. We took it off and twisted it with two creasant wrenches. It doesn't take much.

Sounds like a linkage problem as well. Also make sure the bolts are tight and the drive belts as you would after tensioning the transmission dirve belts. put the transmission in neutral, loosen the two set screws on the shift linkage under the platform. have a person hold the shift lever in the neutral position in the midpoint of the up down movement and then retighten the set screws.

Thanks for the responses. I did replace both traction drive belts last year. I want to check the the tension again in the drive belt system to compensate for stretch. I disconnected the shift linkage from the trans shift lever and manually put the trans into first gear and drove it, and it held in gear, so it's gotta be the linkage improperly adjusted.
