Hello Deadeye,I don,t own a 8680 but have heard lots about them.If your doing mostly straight cutting both combines should have about the same capacity in a average crop.If you are in a heavy crop or picking up heavy swaths the 8680 will easily run away from the 1688.As far as being reliable,I have a friend that is a dealer and my brother is also a dealer and both of them love to sell this combine because it is very reliable and has a lot of capacity.Where you fromIJ

We farm in southern alberta finnally have a decent crop to combine and need to save the straw.

I have the silver-twin to an 8680 (Gleaner C-62) and I can only compare it to my uncles CaseIH 2366. In wheat or any heavy-straw condition, I could push a 25' flexhead a full 1+ mph and net equivalent yields_sample quality, and leave longer, better balable straw in the meantime. To date, my C-62 has about 900 seperator hours (1180 engine hours) and has cost me $7,760.00 Canadian dolllars in non-warranty repairs and service. I am very happy with my C-62.

Have a look at this machine...or have you bought alreadyIJ 1998 MF8680, full load, contour master feederhouse, yield and moisture, auto reel speed_height, walker risers and retarders, Sunnybrook high inertia cylinder and beater, boronized rubbars and chopper knives, 600 sep hours, Victory Super 8 pickup and 30' Agco Rigid headers.
