Several years ago I had a similiar problem on my 1688. The wire was in one of the harnesses that went to the battery, I think it was one of the small wires bolted to the battery cable. We finally just ran a new power wire to the fuse block from one of the solonoids beside it (located under right cab access panel). Haven't had a problem since!
