no the 470 and the 460 are not the same capacity wise the 460 is a wider bodied machine it is just plain bigger! yes the horse power can be cranked up and usually is on a 470. personally i think the 470 is twice the machine the 460 is simply because i have not been impressed with the performance of the 460 at all!

Hmmh ... You write that the 460 is wider and therefor much bigger than a 470. Then you think that the 470 is twice the machine versus the 460. How does that matchIJ

A neighbor of mine demoed a used 470 over the weekend (8-10 hrs. I think) and it performed at a very respectable 5.5 mph avg. throughout the entire demo with a 30' flexhead in 13-15%, 50-55 bu_ac moderately greenstem soybeans, planted on 15" rows and leaving only 1-2 beans_ sq. ft. on the ground. I was very impressed! The one thing that impresses me everytime I harvest beans with my 485R, especially higher moisture, greenstems, is the fact it is very quiet. When I mean quiet, I mean no "romping" sound in the threshing system. The front APS drum eliminates any spike load induced by tough beans, resulting in a more efficient thresh with less power used, not to mention a smooth running and sounding machine. The 470's 290hp is well matched to the size and capacity of the machine. I believe this particular 470 was fitted with heavy duty final drives (probably planetaries),therefore, a 12 row ready machine. Given its performance in the tough bean conditions, I doubt very much that it will have trouble with a 1230 cornhead in any yield of corn.

Yes, I'm not sure what you meant either. The 460 is wider and has more cleaning area, however you state the 460 is not near the machine. Is that what you mean to sayIJ Also, I don't believe that cat will turn up the HP on the 470. Isn't it electronically controlledIJ Who will turn it upIJ

yes i can assure you the 470 can and will be turned up and no it is certainly not an electronically controled engine if it is a 470 and not an R model! It just has a plain old 3126 mechanical!

the reason i say it is twice the machine is because the 470s seem to have half the mechanical problems im not sure why to an extent. however the claas walker bearings are far from being a selling point over any other walker machine because when they go out you get to pull out the whole crank shaft not just one bearing!
