Even as small and old as the N-5 is, it still should run circles around a 9400. You didn't say the hours on the engine or machine. I have seen lugging from both minor to major engine problems to as easy as improper feeding into the rotor. Give us boys here more info and you won't see Red or Green in your yard. The 2388 if I read my info correct isn't as Good_big as an N_R6,R60,R62. I live in Green Country chase those boys with my OlD N-6 every fall and beat the done.

Sorry to be so vague with the above post but I had come in from 15 straight hours of work. August is hectic as we've got hay to bale and corn to chop for silage. The N-5 engine has 3900 hrs on it, separator has approx. 3000, performs well in corn and beans, and produces cleaner samples than the Deere. I'm not used to a Gleaner having always run Deere so I may be missing a calibration. I'd like to get it running properly because as I said, it performs well in corn. Also, does anyone have a tip on how to stop the Gleaner from chewing up straw so badly. The market for baled straw is huge here.

As the other poster commented, is it out of the high side of the transmission. 2 the engine if it has not been done yet is due for a lower end job, aka Bolts and Bearings. Much cheaper than a new engine, N6's are much more prown than the N5's for problems. Make sure that conveyor in the throat is set feed evenly and at the proper speed to the Rotor. My 6 is variable and if not set between corn and beans will cause it to lug too.

If you keep the machine well loaded while cutting, you should be able to thresh well but be able to open the concave up and slow down the cylinder, all which works to keep the straw more intact. If you go too slow, you end up tightening up everything to thresh as well, and chop the heck out of the straw. Also, the bigger you can keep the straw, the better it will seperate from the grain in the sieves.

Shim the helicals by 1_4" and install green stem kit or double stack the helicals and the green stem kit or install channel helical kit. Get rid of the two reverse cylinder bars on the seperator side. Install two more discharge paddles to get a four paddle discharge. Check on upgrades by going to tips and then click on upgrades to get a better idea of what is possible for the P1 system.
