When my swivel got worn, the ball bearings were much more exposed when looking down on the swivel from the platform (after removing the chain shield). You will also notice that the outer and inner race are not in the same plane. I replaced my swivel with an aftermarket swivel from Abilene Machine, Inc. But, others have taken the original swivel apart and rotated the races 180 degrees which makes a lot of sense. If you do this and need more ball bearings (if you loose any) I would be glad to send you some.

From most of the posts that I have read about them falling off, the operator was leaving them out all the time and may of had grain in them. I have for the 6 years that I have owned my N6 made sure that the tube is pretty much empty and always run with it in. And if I am unloading on the run that I am only encountering smooth ground. Mine is an 82 and still has the original unloading tube and swivel. I lube both the chain and the swivel several time a season as to keep the stress as low as possible on the parts. Gleaner had a good idea for the swivel but it wasn't built heavy enough for some of the abuse that is takes and lack of lubrication is an early death to them as is most mechanical items. One of the reasons for the poly ring, less maintenance needed.

my N7 fell off and i always run it empty if you can see inside and notice large gaps in the balls or the top side pushes out alot more...

I think the other guys covered what you need to look for. When we have problem there we replace inner ring with a new set of balls. Keep the balls lubed by spraying with lube or drill and tap for grease zirks. The worst thing by far on these swivels is the water that comes from molding grain in hopper. This water will rot the iron in bottom of hopper and the balls many times faster than normal use. When caught in rain or when storing machine be sure to clean out well for it will save lots iron.
