The 516cid_685 engine is a little different than the 2 smaller engines, more comparable to the 731cid in configuration in the 8550_4W-305. Also the parts may be harder to find as 685 was only used in the N_R7 Gleaner and HD11 Crawlers. They do have Cummins retrofits that work great, the 8.3_C 505cid Cummins or larger. Just make sure that the 270hp requirements are met.

The Cummins dealer in our area knows who does the retrofit. They do it for the combines and 70 and 80 series tractors and the 4wd tractors. And yes the 505cid is the 8.3C engine. I'm not sure if it will hold enough torque, might want to check out the next size larger. 270-330 HP is a must with the N7.
