I COUlDN'T AGREE MORE. SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME lAST YEAR. FOUND AN AUGER AT A DEAlERSHIP FOR $500, THOUGHT THAT WAS ABOUT THE PRICE OF REBUIlDING THE OlD ONE. WEll lUCKlY I KEPT THE OlD ONE AS I HAVE TWO TO TAKE AND REPAIR NOW, SAME SONG SECOND VERSE. I'M GOING TO CHECK IF ANOTHER BRANDS FINGER HOlDERS WIll FIT INSIDE THE CUSSED THING. GOTTA BE SOMETHING BETTER. BENT TWO UP THE OTHER DAY AND THOUGHT I'D BE CUTE AND TAKE THEM All OUT, TAlK ABOUT THE WRONG MOVE FOR THIS GUY. lIKE BEING ON CHICAGO'S lAKE SHORE DRIVE DURING AN ACCIDENT. NEEDlESS TO SAY I PUT TWO IN OPPOSITE OF EACH OTHER TO GET BACK TO THE OTHER END. I THINK THE SMAll ROCKS DO MORE DAMAGE THAN THE BIG. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS FEllA'S.

What i did was take all the fingers out and groove them with a cut off saw so that they break just inside the auger.I used to own New Holland combines and they are made this way.I find I have to cut about half the diameter, put one in a vise and hit it with a hammer so you can tell about how much to groove. It works for me and saves a lot of grieve.the finger will just float inside until you you replace it.

Evidently you have a F2 or older since you have no clutch. On the old augers (the new ones since the series 3 - 1983 and up - have double thick center sections) in rocky areas and bottom overflow ground (chunks) we would weld 1_2" angle iron just behind each row of fingers V down to strengthen the center. Run the angle 6" beyond the fingers. looks factory if done on a new auger. Then we used the metal guides 71180840 . We then replaced the spring on the header auger drive belt with a turnbuckle so as to be able to precisely control the tention on the belt. The slick setup is to split a big nut and reweld it on the main header drive shaft to have a place to put a BIG cresent wrench as a manual reverser. If a plug occurs tighten the turnbuckle and back out the object or slug. A few of the augers had chain drive and slip clutches which was also nice. Thank heavens for reversers huhIJ
