In about 1988 the factory started adding a steel plate liner to top inside of discharge housing. At about that time the back side of chopper housing was also opened up. We cut away the often times worn area at back of chopper housing so some cobs will come out higher and deflect off top of discharge housing further forward. This should relieve pressure on back wall. I would think replacement section at back wall of discharge is tough enough especially if you open up back of chopper housing and line ceiling with plate. I'd go with next thinner iron from 1_4". Take a look at newer machine and you'll see how open chopper is and the panel they use on ceiling. Eff with the 65 and 75s they added liner to outside wall also. Hope that helps.
