Combines N6 advice needed

Butch, Does it still have the original cylinder bars and concave in itIJ If so you are probably looking at needing to replace them. Also if the reverse bars are still in there the bottom of the seperator cage is probably getting pretty thin where the concave and seperator cage meet. 20k seems a bit high but the Cummins motor really adds to the value of the machine. What kind of crops are you going to put through the machineIJ If corn and soybeans and you are good with a wrench I would suggest "hyperizing" before you go to the field with it. Click on "TIPS" and then "Gleaner upgrades" and then the top box for P1 processors. Three years ago I did everything except the grate for less than $1000 and I am extremely pleased with the results. "Hyperizing" my 81 N6 changed it from a cob grinding, rotor spitting, horsepower robbing piece of crap to a high capacity, clean sample machine that I would not be afraid to put up against those $150K machines. This summer Hyper II is putting a grate in my machine to complete the process. One thing in your favor is this forum there is a wealth of knowledge here that can't be beat! Hope this helps, Pete Hinrichsen

Check the accelerator rolls, make sure they are the new style that the rubber can be removed from the shafts with taking the whole roll out of the combine. Don't want to scare you but with a machine of that age and hours you could end up sinking allot of money into the heart of the machine just to get it up to speed. Those things need to be considered when considering the purchase price. Hopefully your neighbor has replaced many of the things I mentioned already but I would go over it with a fine tooth comb before I would pay 20K for a 21 year old machine with those hours. I paid that for my 81 N6 four years ago but it only had 950 seperator hours when I bought it and if I would have researched things a bit more I probably would have gotten it for allot less than that. My 81 N6 is a well built high capacity machine that with a few mod's will keep up with the best of them. The machine you are looking at has one advantage in that you should not have to worry about the motor self destructing. I'm rambling I know but just thought of more things for you to think about.
