I'm not sure, but I don't believe the N7 axles are any heavier than what is on your N6. I have a friend of mine that broke an axle on his N7 and he later built his own axle, spindles, and I believe he used heavier hubs also. Since then, he has had no problems. If interested, I can get some info for you as he lives about 20 miles away.

If you really want to beef up your axle try to find an r62 adjustable axle. TRy is the key word. I had a friend that retrofitted one to an r7 last winter, we had a hard time finding him the axle but we finally did. If you would like to pursue this ave e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with the guy that did the work.

We have a set of the axle stubs with the spindles on them off of an R62 they are brand new and have never been used. We don't have the center section though if you can find the center section you would be able to get the job done.

We have found that the trouble with spindles occurs when you turn on the headlands. 3.5 - 4.0 is very reasonable, but if you turn that fast on the ends without slowing down, you'll break'em sure as shigpit. There's a guy around here that used to run l3's with dual fuel tanks and he'd break spindles while turning - never would slow down much, especially with the added weight. We broke a spindle on the R50 we had when we hit a frozen gopher mound turning with a nearly full hopper. Best of luck- Tom langan

I know tis is a long way from you but a good source of hubs and spindles is Eldale machine and tool ltd. -RR 1 Elmira Ontario Canada N3B 2Z1 519 699 5195. They replaced 4500 lb hubs and spindles on my M2 with 8000 lb hands for less money than i could buy used at the wreckers. they make up to 28000 lb hands wth brakes available. also repair tractor front ends. probably could make anything you need.

Does your spindle break in the horizontal part in the hub or in the vertical part in the axleIJ After reading your post I looked at the axle on my R60 and noticed paint is worn on the RH turn stop. That means the lH cylinder needs to be shortened a bit. This can cause premature wear of tie rod ends, but I dont know if it would break a spindle. Tom in MN

Gee who would of thought that a little thing like the internet would bring a bunch of gleaner guys togeher. the break occurs at the tapered end of the horizontal shaft where the rear wheel bearing sits. I talked to a Northern Idaho service manager that suggested I go to a series 3 axle or a R60-70, that had the double steering rams, for better turning and high speed travel. He thought the R62-72 would not fit with out modification. Thank you guys for all the follow-ups. Have many more questions since I am new to the net and to this site. Hope the new year finds you all well and crops harvested, I have two more days of corn and away goes the 6 for a long winters night.

I farm in southern Idaho, Bliss to be exact. We average less than 12'' of rainfall a year, most of which comes in march to may. We begin irrigating in april and end in october. We irrigate mostly with center pivots and a few wheelines. We do get stuck this late every once and a while depending on the fall. This year had a very dry and hot summer followed by a early wet fall and found a lot of growers behind getting the corn in. Most of us do not have storage facilities set up for high moisture grain, it is usually not a problem to get it dry. Today was a low of 18 and a high of 30 with west wind @ 18-20 mph. This end of the state is known for a constant breeze, if you will. P.S. will a N5 swap most parts to a N6, found a N5 for 5k was wondering for a parts machine.
