Combines N6 Good and bad points

The N6 has a very wide range of problems and yet can be a very dependable machine. Any N6 with a serial n below 5101 will not be a good buy. The Series 3 started at 5101 in 1982. These machines have a much better health record. If the machine is Hyperized, it will give an R62 a run for its money. The neighbor runs TRs and the N6 is a larger capacity and smoother running machine than the TR70,75,88 and89 that he has owned. The TR had a loss problem similar to the Axial Flow, side hills or long grades and it will start losing at the shoe. My N6 has yet to have that problem with up to 250 bpa being run thru it. The exact reason I went from an M2 to an N6, shoe lose because of high yields. You want the Bosch fuel system and the AC670I engine, not the 670HI and the 30.5x32 tires. Mine is 22 years old and purrs like a kitten and has the appetite of a lion for crop input.

Buy a 1983 or newer unit. They had updates. Main problem I had was the 1983 fan in mine shelled out and I put in a new unit and solved the problem . I plow and have heavy clay. The engine was a little underpowered in mud, but run like a gazel in solid fields. Main thing to remember is keep the shoe loaded or you will blow over seed. I unload on the go to reduce this as the shoe is always loaded. I used a 24 ft header. Check the radiator fan bearings each year. You don't want the fan to come off and shell the radiator. I traded it for the R62. The 2 series is a little more friendly changing belts on the right side of the machine than the N6. Also, get track tires for rear. They will steer and keep rolling in soft conditions instead of slugging down in wet, soft fields that the slick tires did.
