I think the impeller is better. In situation with tough or wet straw, the swinging hammers on the chopper will swing back and won't grab the straw as well and can cause some choking at the chopper. Have heard of a fixed blade chopper that overcomes this problem, but can't remember who made it. It also a good idea to check the condition of the impeller paddles. When they wear down, the leading edge gets rounded and won't grab the straw to kick it on out. My thoughts anyway.
