The floor pans on the two conveyors like to wear, the accelerator rolls like to wear, the N6 and 7's like to twist or break the right(main)seperator clutch shaft if slugged real hard, the earlier N7's weren't built as heavy as the 1982 on. Fantastic machine for what you should be able to pick one up for now, even if you put some repairs in it, the 516cid is a strong engine.

Check the accelerator rolls ( between the cage and the chaffer) if they are worn get new ones from the aftermarket sure look and wear same as agco but much cheaper ($85_set) The cage is the heart of the machine (rotor too) make sure it doesn't have rock damage, bulges in the cage make the crop clump and use a lot of power. If the cage is worn thin that isn't a problem (unless you have rocks) if the helicals are ok. helicals are the 'screw' part of the cage that forces the crop material towards the discharge as the rotor spins. Just ask if you don't understand what we talk about here there are a lot of parts that are unique to rotaries and Gleaner that have strange names. RD '80 N5 and '81 N7 rdjohnsonfarm@juno.com PS.
