I had good results from using a P3 channell helicals set in the thresher side of my N6. I left the old ones in the door imediately behind the concave as the concave on a P3 is longer. I used the photo on hypers site looking in a P3 cage and added the section across the corner of the feed opening. It is difficult to get the helicals in and running at the angle shown in the picture but the results were excellent. Not a single cage sweep block compared to previously almost every half hour. I used some of the old helicals to extend out into the discharge. All forward bars but no bars out into the discharge, will probably do that next year. Crops barley, oats, canola, lupins. Steven.

Hi August, I'm running all forward bars with a Gen II rotor, Sunnybrook concave and green stem kit on an R60. Shimmed helical bars also.The green stem kit was purchased at Hurtt Equipment. Only rotor loss was with flax, installed the retarders this harvest and no loss. No corn or soybeans.

Forgot to mention that I removed the cage sweep. Installed a piece of tin upward from left rear concave adjusting bolt.

Hi August, I have only replaced P1 cages with standard black iron. In our area the combine will likely be long gone before they get a black iron one wore out especially if they do something with helicals to get straw flowing. I have only used OEM and some of the loewen seperator side with the 1x1 1_4 holes and only one access door. Normally I will replace weld in door behind concave with new and then flip the other thresher side doors around for we normally put in channel helicals which will fasten up fine with doors fliped. Fliping the doors will get worn area where very little wear takes place. We switch positions of front and rear removeable door and spin the middle one in place. We have used some of the loewen dual pitch chrome channel helicals kits and it basically duplicates angles of standard helicals that have the green stem kit installed. The channel helicals will run you about twice the money as the 1_4"shims and green stem kit. The conditions of your currant helicals will help you make up your mind for you would have to reuse them if you are going to shim. I believe the channels will give you somewhat more capacity in tough going. What did you do with straw shuteIJ Do you mean discharge shuteIJ We haven't extended flat iron helicals into discharge but I believe the Gleaner and loewen channel kits do have at least somewhat extended into discharge. We have not extended P1 cylinder bars but I believe St. Johns have and I now of a Aussie that did. I would say extended cylinder bars into discharge will not hurt as long as you don't get the straw to pack against stop sign which would likely mean you extended helicals to far. Gleaners retarder pegs may be just as effective as knives to retard flow. You would need a pair of gears to get the faster 2nd. I know of a guy that did many and I'm sure some were the old N7s. I'll check it out if you want me to but I'm quite sure you would be looking at minimum of $500. Sorry I posted so late.
