Heard a CIH service rep years ago who said to combine edible beans first remove the rotor and take a 4.5 inch grinder and remove every sharp edge you can find on the rotor and in the cage. Then make sure all augers will pass over your beans without touching the beans in the bottom of the auger tube without pinching or damaging them. Oh, yes you should have a specialty rotor and the right concaves and grates. Terry at St John Welding says their modified rotor works good for edible beans too.

Here is what we do: Specialty rotor, as slow as it will go. We bought the slotted edible bean concaves from our dealer, best thing we ever did. Run them almost all the way open. Use the slotted grates in the rear without any of those little channel irons on the inside. We set the fan speed at 1100 or so. We open up the bottom sieve and use the top sieve for cleaning. The reason for this is that you don't want any beans going through the tailings. By the time they got through the system again, they would most likely be split. We open the door on the return elevator and check it periodically for good beans. Put a slow down sprocket on the drive for the clean grain elevator. Use screens wherever you can, though I don't feel that they're absolutely necessary. Idle back when you're unloading. I'm sure I forgot something, and conditions may be different for you.
