Combines NDDan sump question

Yes the sump can be eliminated easy. Only exception is if it had the latest sump kit put in. I believe that kit came out in '04 and it had a very lightweight door. To remove the sump from earlier machine you just remove left and right seal plate that door seals against and the channel that door latches onto. You can now swing door up and latch in normal manner. If door has easy close linkage you will need a longer rod. You will also need to adjust switch for new position of door. Now if he plans on installing hump onto door I have a couple tricks. I just fold open concave, leave the door in latched position, clip vise grips to bottom of door in a manner to hold up side plates when bolts are removed, carefully set hump onto door, start all bolts then remove one at a time to apply loctite. I highly recommend the hump along with helical tricks to prevent second pass of material over feed chain, rock door, concave a second time. This will all reduce load on feeder but he should also check a few things. Make sure all feeder related belts are tentioned proper, disassemble both slip clutches to check condition and fill with springs, tention front chain to specs and rear chain to 5". Check to make sure no irons are fastened to bottom side of square tube in front feeder. Remove stripper in front of rear drive sprockets if not in corn. If all this is good then check out our website on tilting feeder floors. This will give feeder great capacity in the toughest and highest flow conditions. hurttequipment.com

Thanks NDDan, I will run it past him and see what he thinks. I put the steep pitch helicals (on the thresher side) in mine last fall after corn. We cut milo with them in and it sure performed well. Thanks again. des

conditions do vary, but we have not installed the rear strippers in many years. The only time we have found we need them in corn is when the chains are run at slowest speed and in damp wet corn conditions such as white corn 25% plus moisture. This is after the cyl modifications which prevent the 2nd pass threshing and the back up that can occur here.
