Combines NEED BAT REElS any info please

Just curious... what is it that requires bat reels..IJ Personally I hate them but my experience doesnt go much beyond cereals Enlighten me..IJ

Bat reels are superior when the crop is short and standing. We have milo and wheat, and when standing the bat reel feeds better and less is thrown over the header. Allen

OK. Thanks for the illumination. I think I know about short crops, at least in cereals..like when you cant even really get the heads.. And in that case in my environment I still prefer the finger tine reel. But for milo..IJ its out of my experience so I accept what you say.

I agree with Nascar, the bat reel is the best for perfectly standing crops. It simply feeds the crop into the sickle better than a reel with tines, especially at higher ground speeds. Our problem is that we will have a few acres of down crop in every field, usually terrace bottoms, so the PU reel makes sense to keep on the machine all the time.
