Yes, pull it out. While balancing is thought of as voodoo magic it is realativly straightforward. Make sure your bearings are very free to test for balance. I made rotor balance stands a couple of years ago when I had the rotor out of my N6 couldn't believe how out of balance it was! A friend couldnt believe how out of round his was. Half an inch! How do you know fan is a pound outIJ (Ican figure only after balancing) RD

How did you figure 1 pound out balanceIJ Did you just add wieght till it balanced and then you figured it to be a poundIJ Kinda like after you buy some new tires for ol 3_4ton and look down an they stuck about 24 wieghts to you wheel trying to get her to stay on the roadIJ

If it is that far out you need to pull the fan and check for damage _ dirt build up. The sheave should be balanced. Check for factory balance drillings. As stated place the fan assy on two level stands, one at each end that support the fan on the bare shaft. The fan should stay at any place it is rolled with out trying to rebound or find the "heavy spot". Add wt. as nec. Adding weight to the outside is not solving the problem as the fan spins at 1100 rpm and any imbalance between the brgs translates to early failure_ fatigue.

Do you guys have any idea how heavy a fan isIJ I cant lift much over 30-40 lbs so I wonder if I can handle 1 end with someone else on the other end or if I have to hire 2 guys and then stand around and watch. Heres how I determined it is about a pound out of balance: After removing all belts, I added close to a pound of magnets to the sheave to keep the fan assembly from seeking the heavy side. Next I will remove the fan assembly, look for damage, and balance it in a stand I built for balancing other shafts. I have found it is best to balance on a bare shaft with bearings removed, but others may disagree. Thanks Tom in MN

142 lbsIJ Procrastination is the key word for a job like that. Everyone is invited for half time festivities. I will even pop for the beer. look for the driveway with tracks in deep snow because the guy who should be clearing snow is too busy playing around with his computer.
