Combines Need help on a 4900 IHC Truck

It sounds like the same pump as the Dodge Pickup and the Case Combine. One way is to loosen the spring in the aneroid. You should have a screw cap possibly with a allen head near the aneroid diaphragm. Take it off and there will be a star wheel similar to a brake adjuster for drum brakes under the spring. If you loosen the spring it will allow the fuel delivery to be higher at lower boost pressures and will increase the power and consequently the smoke as well. You might check out TST Products at tstproducts.com. They have power upgrade kits for B and C Cummins Engines with the Bosch 7100 pump. It sounds like you have the same injection pump. We have installed several of their torque plate kits in Dodge Pickups and they are good for up to about 200 more horsepower. I hope that this helps--Good luck!

Thanks, theredgreenshow for the reply. I would like to be sure about everything, because I've never seen what's on a dodge truck, but this injection pump's governor housing is larger (fatter) than what's on my 2388. My question is, after taking the plug out, do you turn the wheel towards the engine block to loosen spring on aneroid, or turn it away from block. What amount of turns does it take to make a little differenceIJ Also, you mention of one way to do this--do you know of another way to increase fuel by 10% on horsepowerIJ P.S. I like tractors with M-100 and in-lines without aneroids to bump up fuel on.

I would start with a turn or two. I don't know which way you go, but you want to lOOSEN the spring. Best way to check your work is to take it for a drive. That TST place that I mentioned sells different torque plates for the Bosch Pump, but you can also slide the plate on a Dodge pickup and get a little more power. It is a trick to get at, but either by sliding it a little or by putting a different one in, you can get a lot of power.
