Combines need help with green stems in N7 w sunnybrook

You are lucky to have beans that dry! The rest of mine are still like lima beans. I was having good results in early beans with 500 rotor speed and 5_8 concave clearance. Green leaves, green pods, and soggy stems went through without any rumble. I installed a hose mod this year, which seems to improve feeding. After getting the reel set in the proper position to sweep the hose I was able to move right along at 3-4 mph. Good luck Tom in MN

I would guess you have heilical bar problems. You are backing up the material and grinding it up rather than feeding through in a thin mat which gives plenty of room to separate grain. Do you have the line up kit, double stacked heilicals (at least in the transition area) and the four paddle dischargeIJ Is your grate levelIJ

Beans in the tank should make No 1 the same as previous yearsno cracks or splits. We had a 2-week monsoon during bean planting. Anything planted after the delay is still wet. Early planted beans were hard as a rock on green soggy stems with many green leaves.

We raise seed for Pioneer as well. We raised 91B52's for a couple of years but quit them. They are by far the most difficult bean to harvest and get good cleanout on we have ever planted. In fact one year you could crack them by rubbing between two fingers. According to the plant in Jackson, MN others have a difficult time as well. A 25%, yes 25 % cleanout is common with these beans. Best we could do with a Hyper Harvest Special was 7-9%. I know that is high but the buggars are tough. To the combine: I bet you would experience a lot less rumble and horsepower consumption if you could open up your concave a little. Sounds like you have return to cylinder option so hopefully can get pods to acceptable level. Turning up cylinder speed will help decrease rotor loss, but probably increase cracks too. But the tradeoff may be worth it. If you do increase rotor speed then you should probably open concave some too. I would hesitate to use retarding fingers. They rob you of a lot of horsepower and as you see break up material too much. Not sure about rasp bar in sep. side of cage. I believe that Hyper likes the idea of them in a high low set up but they may help with all high forward as well. Good luck P.S. Next year try to get some 91B64's and 91B33's. They combine much easier and have great cleanouts.

i can see that, although the field we worked in today wasnt near as bad, alot more uniform and dryer stems but dad pulled the most extreme of oooppppsssses today

Check that enclosed rotor to see if the discharge blades have two positions. I believe inward position is mostly for corn and if you are having the rumbling I would move them out. They may not be conveying that tough straw away from bars and into chopper or beater. If there is grubling there would be good seeds getting caught up in straw and going out rotor. Make double sure that no pulleys or belts related to discharge beater are getting hot from slipping. let use know if you have discharge beater and what the blades look like to see if you have newer or older style.

Yes dibber does and I believe it is working well, maybe check one of his posts or make mention on a new post to get any reaction. I wouldn't flip them blades for I would be worried about wrapping also but I would run them in outer position. I would also be tempted to make some straight discharge blades if I didn't think I was getting the performance I should from that rotor. Do you have a dual spreader for that N7 for I have seen the two paddle spreader turning the wrong way which will load up axle with straw. The two paddle spreader should turn clockwise when viewed from the top and many have wrong twist in belt so they turn backwards.
