Combines needing a new combine

They are both good machines. I am partial to Gleaner but I would say both would be good. Which one has the best dealerIJ Which one will give you the best priceIJ We ran 4 R-52's one was an experimental from the factory. It had the motor of an R-62 in it 30' head. It would eat 9600's of that time. I miss the 52's they were easy to haul and easy to get around. I would at least get a 98 or newer. They had some feeder house updates, that were needed (plus the cummins). Overall a very good machine. Good luck, drohrbough

We stepped up from our F3 to a 1996 R52. You get a good portion of the things you want with this new a unit. That's when they stepped up from the 225hp Cummins to the 230hp Cummins. We added the feeder shock kits. Made a big improvement when we added them. Ours has the 3_4" spacing and only two reverse bars. Running 520 flex and 630 hugger. Great machine. Think hard about staying with the Gleaner. When you go to work on it most things will seem familiar to you. We looked at a 2166. Need more specialized tools to work on it and things harder to get to. Depends on how much repair work you do yourself and good your servicing dealer is. Just my 2 cents worth.

i like the idea of things looking the same when working on it just dont know about the machine on how they work does it work in wheat i bale my straw does it make the straw to fine

We bale wheat and barley straw behind our R52. We just have the impeller and drop spreader no chopper. Talked with a guy with the chopper and even with knives pulled back it tore up the straw worse. Old straw where wheat is has been ready to cut for a while and is somewhat rotten from all the rains like we had this year, don't waste your time. It shreds it. However, wheat cut early baled fine. The windrow looks tiny till you actually start baling. Makes fine heavy bales. Some landscapers and stables we sell prefer the shorter length because it goes farther. As for the Case IH, a neighbor had a 1660 that he could never get to bale straw behind.
