Combines NEW 8000 FlEX HEAD

We have a new 830 and I think they are the same as 8000. No fingers available. We run an Crary Air Reel and in my opinion with it fingers are not needed. Yes the rock guard would interfer with the air blast from air reel. We tried the hose mod with our air reel just to see what would happen. We felt that we lost some of the advantages of the air reel. However, if one was really trying to keep dirt and rocks out of the head then I suppose it would be a good trade off. A fellow seed grower has a full finger flex with a Crary Air Reel. Says the Crary Air Reel is really all he needs. The fingers helped without the air reel but are still not the whole answer.

Get an aws air reel over a crary, after owning both there is no comparision, Works a whole lot better it blows back instead of down so much, simplier ot put on and off. you can use your regular reel. no high maintenance reel gears and bearings and does not cut your air blast every time a pipe goes by. Only downside to both is they make a dirty mess on your feeder house and cab windows and cut visibility. But if you want to feed short beans with a Gleaner 800 flex you have to have it. The worst short bean feeding header on the market.

I think all these companies will soon offer full flex draper headers soon. I imagine Macdon and others will be selling this technolgy to all the majors. If I recall correctly Gleaner is supposed to introduce theirs in a couple of years. I was at a JD STS demo this fall and they also made the comment that they are going to be soon introducing a completly new harvesting system for beans. At the Farm Progress show New Holland had a prototype flex draper that one could see was a Macdon. Not sure if it is just an updated 972 model or not. Have you ever seen the Massey "Power Feed" head (I believe that is the name)they have in EuropeIJ Too bad that couldn't be re-engineered for flex capability Have only run JD and Gleaner flex heads so I can't argue about the worst feeding short soybean comment. I do know that if I had a Deere flex it would have an air reel too.

Crary also makes a different air system than the air finger reel it is call the CWS it is basically identical to the AWS only thing it is priced a quite a bit cheaper I purchased one for a JD 925 this summer and it worked great it was approx $1500.00 cheaper than the AWS for the same head.

We have installed Crary systems on most of our heads and they are sure hard to beat in any condition. For other color machines to run in the same conditions they must have Crary system also. I'm unsure how a full finger header would have any benifit over the 7" flighting as far as getting crop from cutter bar to flighting. I can see how full finger could help if auger only has 4" flighting. I like the KISS system (keep it simple stupid). We did have a 800 with HCC level two reel and hump kit fastened behind cutter bar with a condition where it had trouble feeding. We just took out reel back stop bolt and trimed very outside flighting to allow bringing reel back all the way and bang it worked well. We'll need to look into Crarys new air system to see if we can use it with the HCC level two for that should be great. I have trouble tring to figure out how they will come up with a low maintance draper system that will flex enough without some sort of feather sheet. I would rather see some sort of vibrating or shifting feather sheet that prevents material from stalling when it is short or sticky.

With an air reel your going to find the full finger auger is of no benefit. The air will do all the work. I have sold Crary sytems and now AWS systems and I can tell you I have not expierenced nearly the same amount of problems with the AWS system as the Crary which only makes sense as it is much simpler. Now Crary has the CWS available as well and I can tell you it is priced about $200.00 cheaper than the AWS system. But after now selling the AWS system I would not push my customers towards the CWS system as I believe the AWS is better.

Sounds great that AWS is better because that must make it really good. Many people talk of the troubles they have or the complexity of the Crary compared to the AWS but I can't say we've been dissapointed with our Crary's on either point. We still run one of the original Crary's...belt drive. It is an '89 on a 320. The pair have at least 1,000 sep. hours together and we've never had much trouble. Occasionally we break the shear bolt on it and on our '00 but that has been it. Always like to hear of someone building a better mouse trap :) Brian

Machinery Dealer!! What is better about the AWS system than the CWS system Crary makes, please give some examples so I will know and yes the prices difference is greater than that, the price I was quoted for an AWS system, combine mounted fan for a JD 9500 and the air tube for a 925 JD Flex head was 6200.00 I purchased the Crary CWS system for 4700.00 I picked up the CWS at the factory in West Fargo, ND and installed the system my self (Very simple to install) so maybe that is why it was cheaper but if I remember correctly the AWS was priced without freight and install so then things should have been equal the only other possiblity could be I got the first CWS Air reel in ND and the United States so maybe Crary was just pushing to get some units out there I beleive it is probally the best system you can buy I harvested over 1350 acres of soybeans this fall and it worked great absloutly great no problems what so ever.
