Combines New AFX combine and the 2388

I haven't heard anything about it, and it would surprise me since the 2388 is supposed to be the equivalent of the mid-level model in the new line. To be an economy model, it would have to be cheaper than the smallest new machine. I'd have a hard time believing that they would cannibalize their own sales like that.

By the time CNH comes out with a new combine ,if they ever do they will be so far behind everybody else it doesn't matter . Don't get me wrong I'm born and bred red but why in heck does it take them so D**n long to get something to market .I've already heard about this new great machine for two years and they might not release it until 2004 ! come on pull your head out CNH!!!!!

I would think that something should be available in the USA either this fall or year, it probably will have some inovations in the drive line to the rotor and a good cab, plenty of storage etc. Most other things have been done, electric sieve adjustment etc etc so expect it to have all that. Good work lighting inspection lights etc. Yield monitoring, protein etc. The spec is probably still fluid at the moment though.

I talked to the local Caseih rep here at our local dealer about a month ago. From what I gathered yes they will still have the 2388. According to him they still have a few bugs to work out on the AFX rotor they are talkin about. He claims they will have 2 models above the 2388 one with about 320hp and 320bu tank and the other they are talkin about is supposed to be in the 365-370hp range and the tank around 350bu. So who knows. I myself really so no reason for the manufactures to continue on with there battles of who has the best and biggest. As far as I am concerned all combines today being the R72, The TR99, The 9650 and 9750STS, the 8780XP, the lexions and the 2388s are as big as we need. With todays commodity prices there is no way the elevators can keep upgrading to meed the capacity needs of these combines getting bigger. I know that throughout the year there are several elevators who cant hang with 25 of todays combines in one area. During my corn harvest in Nebraska the elevators are completly swamped. I myself am very content with the 2388s and if the new monster does come out I will stick to the 2388 as far as im concerned it is the best combine going today. She might not eat the most grain in a day and whatever the others say about them but they sure are user friendly great to operate and easy to manitain.

Chris. If you take a look at the Newholland prototype pictures it looks like a pretty hightech machine. It seems to me that it has all the features. I think you can expect the same from the new Case combine and I am afraid that there is a reason when they call the 2388 for an economy model. I think that the new combine will be pretty expensive due to all the features. Another reason to keep the 2388 in the market is to work out the bugs that is bound to be in a new product. I think that alot of customharvesters and farmers would like the opportunity to run "a sure thing" while the bugs are worked out. This is just my opinion. What would you guys doIJ Go with the new combine or stick with the 2388IJ CT

bookem, Maybe your the one who should pull his head out. Would you rather have a new model combine in 2002 that his broke down half the time or would you rather have one in 2004 that runs 14 or 16 hrs. a day without a stop. I have never know CaseIH to put a new model out before they are sure it will run, and that's just fine with me. Another thing, I agree with cutter2388. My 2388s are big enough and they do every thing I need, so why a bigger more expensive combine when we have $2.00 wheat, $1.75 corn and $4.00 dollar beans. Go figure!! K.E.

Hello there unit 2. I was just curious as to where you traded your last machines. I am currently looking at trading my 96 2188 with 2500 engine hours and my 98 2388 with 2700 engine hours. I have had better luck it seems going further east. I have been trading with a dealer out of Oklahoma and on this go round they are out of the water on trade difference. Would agree CNH needs to get a move on sometimes, however look at JD as example, not exactly known for being first with new concepts sometimes, 2 cyl tractors and rotary combines example.

I'm not sure the new big combines is for us in North America or for the South American farm that is running 31 combines in a 7000 acre fieldIJ

CNH intends to base all future combine production at the Grand Island (New Holland) combine plant by 2004. If CIH kept the 2388 around, they would have to move that tooling to Grand Island- since they already announced closure of the East Moline plant by 2004. That move isn't going to happen; it appears that the 2003 model of the 2388 will be the last. The combines that will be made in Grand Island are the New Holland rotary combine (CR) and the new CIH rotary combine (the AFX). Basically twins of each other, except for the rotor design. The Grand Island plant is going to be remodeled this fall, for CR production in 2003. It appears that the Case combine will be released a year later, in 2004.
