Hard to beat price and quality of aftermarket companies like loewen. That said, we give our local AGCO dealer every chance to make the sale. Often we approach him with a list of stuff we need then tell him to do the best he can for price. We do this because our local dealer is nothing less than fantastic for service and parts stocking!!! Our dealer will open the doors with a smile at midnight on a Sunday for us (we try not too abuse the privilage). We have the cell phone numbers of the main people we need at the dealership so we can reach them anytime...they do not mind. They always seem to get us running ASAP. We figure how can we not be loyal to them when they put forth this kind of an effort for us. The savings on a few parts doesn't seem so big when we have this kind of a dealer. Also, I think they save us lots of money because if we didn't have this good of a dealer we'd feel compelled to trade combines more often in an attempted to reduce downtime.

Brian, everyone has to make important decisions like that to stay profitable. You make a very good point, I myself would probably stay with Agco also. We have a pretty decent dealer that puts up with us so the extra amount seems minute to me. They also will always have a record of your purchase and its seems easier to complain to a local dealer than a mail order company. I had bought some planter opener blades from a sideline company and I didnt really save that much and had some bearing problems to boot.

Asking politely for a price break usually gets me a 10% discount-sometimes 20%. I only ask on larger orders and out of season. The price usually gets surprisingly close. Most dealers seem to appreciate a chance at least.

I would try the discount thing and stick with the Agco ones. The simple reason is that you know that the Agco ones are balanced. I had ordered a set out of the shoupe magazine and had even asked them on the phone if the were a balanced set. They told me that they were, so I ordered them. When I got them they were in a box all scattered around and not in a balanced pair. I installed them anyway and it did vibrate, so I will not do that again to save a 150 dollars.

Did you price it with bars installedIJ I see you can order with 1_2" thresher bars and 3_4" seperator bars now. That is the way they setup the open eight bar when headed for mainly small grains. We use mainly OEM chrome bars but some guys buy the loewen hardened bars if they have lots of rocks.
