Heard rumours of a Class 7 Conventional; - probably just an over-powered 9660. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not "knocking" the 9660's by any stretch. I think they're a great combine.

Appart from putting a "big top" on them and screwing the fuel pump up and extra fifty or so horses, how much more could they do to themIJ The walkers should always be the limiting factor on any walker machine. I see the Euro versions have that "rake" thing half way along the walkers to try and improve seperation. The beauty of the JD walker machine is its simplicity. None of this going through 3 cylinders and 5 beaters which make other machines a nightmare to work on. Sure it may not be the biggest capacity conventional on the market, but would you really want to repair or maintain a NH CX_TX with that self leveling shoe and it's upteen cylinders and the twin returns and returns drums on either side and the 8 or so baby walkersIJ Cheers Bundy

Please don't start a colour-war, but I just want to say that that's one of the reasons why I love the Axial Flow:its simplicity.

I couldn't agree with you more; - the 96XX conventional combines are STIll the most "cleanest-designed" machines on the market; - I wished I would have kept mine.

the CX combines have been pretty much bulletproof in our area and from what i have seen have out-done any JD conventional they have been in the field with.I know when you run a product for many years it is hard to look at something else but if you own a JD walker machine and ever get the chance to run a CX i highly recommend it.FYI the CX has a cylinder, beater, rotary separator, and strawflow beater(not 3 cylinders and 5 beaters). It has 6 walkers(not 8 baby ones). and as far as the self-leveling shoe, run a CX and a JD both an the same slope and check the ground behind both of them and see the difference for yourself. Just my opinion(everybody has one rightIJ)

The conventional desingn is the only thing john deere thought they were good at for years and they made people buy there overpriced poorly engineered machinces. Now with New Holland and lexion_Cat and there machines pretty much makes jd's machines look like underpowered lightweights.

If you would re-read my original post on this topic you would have read that I did say that the 90xx series combines are not the biggest capacity machines on the market, that is not a fact that I am disputing. That said they are by no means lacking in capacity. My point was.... I would be a huge pity if JD was to compromise the simplicity of their walker machines just to become the "biggest" for five minutes until someone else does something to thier machine. They are a clean, simple, confortable machine to operate and maintain. By adding all the "extra's" Class and NH have added to thiers to improve capacity would be to the detriment of thier status as a clean, simple, confortable machine ot operate and most importantly... maintain. I don't dispute at all the the CX is a fatastic machine with huge capacity and all the bells and whistles. likewise for the Class, but do I really want all that..... IJIJIJ

I question the intelligence of some of these jockeys who compare a 9860 to a lexicon 590; - Class 8 vs. Class 9, I HOPE the Claas (oops, CAT) excels in capacity; - it's almost 100 hp more and clearly a larger capacity machine.

Do you really want AC,cruise and power accessories in your vehicleIJ When you see the difference it makes I think so.
