Combines New monitor

I ran the new monitor last year. Really like it as it is easy to see and easy to use. But be very careful with the little data cards. Make sure and save your data EVERY time before you shut off the combine. That's right before shutting off the combine, whether that is to stop and fuel up or to disconnect the header or before you slug it and kill the engine That was the advice I receive after losing 600 acres of information. It is very important on how you name your fields or the job you are doing. I can't remember off of the top of my head, but I know I thought I was doing it right but then I had 4 fields all show up on the same map. Which if you make that mistake you can split them up later. I did have some issues with the map print outs. I harvest some irrigated circles and for some reason the map is only about 2-3 inches big with no way to blow them up on the print outs. You can blow them up and look on your computer screen but they won't print that way. I think also on those fields that I had to split apart sometimes they wouldn't print out very big either. Get extra data cards as I did have one of them go bad rather quickly. Do you harvest a lot at nightIJ That screen can be really bright with no way to turn the brightness down. At least I haven't found a way and our district guy said the same thing. Just my observations, I would also love to hear from some of the other people using them. Kurt

Rolf had the same problem with a screen on a monitor being too bright at night and having no way to dim it. He got a piece of green rigid transparent plastic and hung that over the screen at night which went a long way to solving the at night screen glare problem. He also tried red plastic as well. We sometimes use the red plastic transparencies over the driving lights at night in dusty conditions. The long wave length of the red light punches through the dust particles and drastically reduces the back glare from the dust and enables one to see what is happening out front. You need some pretty powerful lights for this as the light output is reduced by the red transparencies.

Surely you guys are kiddingIJ Hang a piece of transparent colored plastic in front of a monitor because they didn't put backlight controls on itIJIJIJ Tell me this is a June fools joke. I guess you had to put a piece of duct tape over the speaker to mute the volume just like the monitors on the old 5100 series planters. From the sound of it the new monitor sounds like a cluster*uck.

There is a backlight adjustment slide but it does not seem to change anything. Yes we do a lot at night. We did not get a card with the monitor, what kind does it takeIJ

Whoa! Just back up! Please read my post again! I said a screen on "a" monitor. I did not say or imply Agco's monitor! Ours was an add on monitor to the combine from some years ago. Full Stop!

Even I have to make a correction because that mis-read and misrepresentation got under my skin. The monitor I was talking about is actually a non standard add on for an airseeder.

The card is a little SD card just like you put in your digital camera. As for the bightness of the screen at night, it bearable, I don't think you would need to cover it up. But for the kind of money we paid it surely could of been programed with a dimmer setting. Kurt

I'm not the Fieldstar expert at out dealership but I do know I switched a switched power wire for continuous power before our harvest started. Sometimes it pays off to be up north with later harvest. This wire was provided by Gleaner. There was or is a bulliton to install this on earlier machines. Be sure you get this and be sure you have new software installed. This will likely address most of the first year startup problems you encountered. Good luck

had to r un a separate cable from battery to monitor for my ag leader monitor.(12 volt)

I was told about this update while I was at Heston last year, but then when my dealer inquired about it later they said that it was causing some different problems and didn't recomend it any more. So do you think that it is still recomendedIJ Thanks Kurt
