The price for 28% here in Ontario Canada is right around $300.00 and Urea is close to the $400.00 mark per tonne. We think the same thing that these prices are crazy and hope they come down too, i kind of doubt it though our local suppliers are hanging tough on the prices. The way input costs have soared there are some that are even thinking why bother growing a crop at all, but in the next breath there are dummies out there still willing to pay $100.00 per acre rent and up, makes me wonder how these guys can do it and others can't. Sure hope the price of corn and beans goes UP SOON.

We are in the Brant and Norfolk area, we have been getting land for under $100.00 per acre but there are guys in this area, bigger farmers paying up to $175.00. The way i look at it its crazy paying those kind of prices for rent, i'll not pay that and do less but some dummies just can't get enough i guess. We paid the same for 28% last year and have gotten the same deal that you did this year, up plenty from last year

Unfortunately there are guys here that have either a quota system and make money and feel that they can afford to pay big rent. We pay up to about $80.00 an acre for top producing ground, but its tough to keep it. We have a lot of chickens, veggies, tobacco, ginseng and some of these guys feel they can still make a buck growing corn and beans. I personally think they are nuts. In this area there is a lot of diversification. Not too far away from us i know of a guy that sold his dairy herd and rented up all the land he can get his hands on and is paying up to and over $200.00 an acre, he runs two and three combines and does custom work for forty miles around, i just can't see how he does it, but once the dairy money runs out it might be crash time.

South of Dallas, TX NH3 - $330_ton. More beans for us! We may not get a chance to put any out if wanted - too wet water standing! We plant corn around 2_25 and beans start 3_1 and then milo. I have heard some plants are taking the natural gas and instead of NH3 selling it for the higher price. Until natural gas comes down fert will be higher.

Where in Ontario are you located that rent is $100_acIJ Rents in our area haven't been that low in atleast 6yrs. Rent starts at 150 for poor land and goes to 225 and higher for top land or 2-3 big guys try to out bid each other. I got a lucky break on some 28% and booked for $230_mt. last year we paid 178 delivered to the field.

We paid $338_ton (US$) pre-pay on Dec. 29 of 2000. I am on our local coop board and it sounds like things will only get worse unless you want to gamble and try to find some nitrogen to side-dress. Coop was only able to get 80% of their NH3 contract filled -- supplier returned a check to them for the balance. No suppliers will commit 28% to them at any price. Thankfully they do have 100 ton more urea on hand than they used last year, but that is sold already, too. Now the bugaboo is that seed companies are running out of soybeans! If you can't get fertilizer or beans what are you going to plantIJ Glad we just raise alfalfa and corn!

46-0-0 at 245,18-46 and10-50 at 270. The increase on these not as steep as NH3 but still hard to cash flow with these markets. Tried soybeans last year they were Ok 21-23 bu. I think that I am too far north to really get big yields on those so we stick to small grains ,canola ( needs lots of N to make bu.) and flax also sunflowers. Thanks for all the replies it is very interesting to see how much $ varies from one area to another.JOHN
