Yes I was. I believe it was the same time that they had a Deutz V8 engine on display with a motorcylcle starter on it and they stated it right there. Must have been 1987 since that was the year R50 was intoduced. Incidently the person who introduced the R40-50 was Tom Stadtmueler. He left AGCO later and worked for Case-IH and then ended up at Wilmar. Recently he became VP of parts at AGCO in Batavia. I remember telling Tom that we should make a "fat 50" and he said give us a couple years. Well it took til 1992 and the rest is history.

OK, I'll be the one to look dumb here and ask what is probably an obvious question - what do you mean by a "fat 50"IJ Thanks!

Fat 50 is what they called the prototype version of what became R62and R72. We got to run one of them in 1991 had the old style cab but the drives and other sheet metal was what became the new combines. I think it's time they had another meeting. If I ran a company and could increase the capacity of a product by 20-25% for little or no money I would do it in a heart beat.
