Combines Not impressed w 2388s

Must be something wrong with the 2388. We ran a 2366 for 3 yrs, 1st year with a 1063 then 2 yrs with a 1083. Really didn't see much difference in how it handled either head. Traded the 66 for a 2388. First year was like you, wasn't that impressed, just didn't seem to have the power. Dealer tried several things to no avail. They finally replaced a diaphram, sorry can't remember where, and it was a whole different machine. This year we had an AFX rotor put in it, mainly for green stemmed beans. Again, big difference between the AFX and Specialty rotor. I figure we increased our bean cutting capacity by 25%. In corn we run 5.5-6mph in 200+bpa corn, even while unloading on the go. Usually 5mph was pushing it with the Specialty rotor.

Could you find out about the diaphram that was replaced. Seems like we lost power this year and the engine pulls down on our 2388 even in the 25 bu beans we've been cutting. No smoking from the exhaust but low rpm alarm will come on frequently if you don't back off. Been cutting these beans about 5 mph. Keep air filter clean and inner filter has less than 700 hrs on it. Check the tube from the intake manifold to the injection pump aneroid housing and make sure you don't have a pin hole there before you replace the aneroid diaphraghm. Also might want to check the precleaner for leaves etc. They have a bad habit of collecting there as well. No smoke shure sounds like an aneroid diaphraghm, fuel filters or plugged fuel tank vent.

You may want to check the "vains" above the rotor. If they are flattened this will be a problem of holding up the corn stalks and other material from exiting the cage. Jack

What engine is used on this machineIJ8.3 cummins with inlne pumpIJHad a gleaner with this engine lose power..Waste gate actuator was leaking and therefore aneroid will not fuel engine.Easy check:Remove hose at wastegate actuator and plug with a 1_4 inch bolt.If power is back then actuator is leaking.

Our 8780 MF with a cummins acted just like YR discriptions -- thought that is the way it was -- then we discovered that the engine was running 200RPM too slow at high idle -- throtle cable had slipped on injection pump -- runs like a champ now!!!!

The aneroid diaphram was what i was thinking of. Changing it sure made a difference in our 2388. I was at the point of wanting our 2366 back. Mechanic that found the replacement said that the diaphram is commonly overlooked but said when a customer complains of lack of power it's the first place he checks once the customer says he has changed fuel filters and cleaned the outer air filter

Even before that you should check high idle. We have found a number of these machines 100-200 rpm short and on an emission engine this is critical. Most of the time the correction has been to reset the throttle cable. On the pump end the conection to the fuel control lever is a spring loaded capsule. There are 3 line references on the barrell that indicate spring tension. Only one needs to be showing. Any more than that and you will most likely greak the fuel arm off the pump. Also indicated my being able to feel the spring in the throttle lever about the last 1-2 inches of travel before it snaps into the full position.

I think you have to give some credit to the Gordon bars. After we put them, along with an air chaffer, we picked up 1- 1-1_2 MPH combining corn.
