That sounds like the right gap. I put an electronic pickup unit in the distributor on the old gas we have. It goes in place of the points and condenser. Used to have some trouble keeping the engine timed as the points seemed to burn down awfully quickly. Since I put the kit in I have never had to change timing again. Starts every time within 2 revolutions of the engine. I belive the kit is called the Ignitor. Its sold for several older tractors as well.
