Spend the $2,000 and have a head that is ready to go. You may spend more than that on the first head you bought and still have other areas that are worn. Sell the first head you bought or if it doesn't move, keep it for repairs.

The "base" head is identical. The only difference is the mounting_drive package. I have to take the mounting_drive package off of the head I already have and add it on to the "new" head.

I'd buy the second head, bearings, chains and maybe some gears on the first one could cost over 2000.I completely rebuilt a 438 about 5-6 years ago and the parts were 23-2500,and I think I only replaced 1 gear.

If you can I would buy the head. My reason for saying this is (1)- a worn 4 row corn head on a M2 will slow you down as the head won't take as much as the combine. This will cause poor thrashing and seperation. (2)- The F2 head will be in better shape because it was on a F2 and hasn't had the wear and tear like being on M2. You will have to change the mounting and drive. You might put the F2 mounting on the M2 head and sell it. Good luck!
