Just finished doing the exact thing that you are talking about. We started out by taking off the outside cover door to open things up. Next we removed the plastic air box which is mounted above the rad. The round corner tin and the piece under it have to come off to be able to remove the oil cooler. It looks like a lot more work than it really is. After the oil cooler was out, we power washed it up and took it into a rad shop where they were able to resolder one of the joints at the bottom. I too question the problem of the cracked joint as to whether this is a common problem or just a freak occurance.
