Quite a few old model cotton harvesters, with their greater under body clearances, which are OK for cereals and etc, have been been converted to boom sprayers here in Australia without any real problems. The cost is about a third of the commercial self propelleds. In the late 1970's one big out fit converted a couple of brand new JD combines to sprayers, They did not last long. Two of their cowboys [ drivers ] played chicken on the last run up a paddock and hit head on at full speed! Wasn't much left to pick up! Cheers.

I have seen several sprayers made from older combines. Even hillside combines so you wind up with a leveling sprayer. In fact someone even made a sprayer conversion for Deere 95's and 66xx's at one time that just replaced the header with a sprayer. Farmshow magazine has have a lot of them over the years, some pretty crude and some real fancy. The one problem is that your probably not going to be able to spray at the high speeds that seem to be more common these days. Sounds like a good winter project if you have the time, place and know how.

And people wonder why I don't want employees . . . . You don't suppose those two got into the beer a little early that day, do youIJ Must've had steering-column shaped indentations in their midsections and forehead-shaped dents in the safety glass on the front of the cab!
