Did the header have to be raised by turning a big wheel that operated a rack on the left side of a seatIJ Saw one of those wrecked out at Killion Moore years ago, and I don't think it had hydraulics. looks like a big K6 IH truck. Do you know what your family used before the self propelledIJ I remember photos of combines similar to what were used in Washington state's wheat fields in the Triangle area of Montana. I'm assuming you're from that area.

I think they had a electric lift. I think the Cockshutts had the wheel on the side to lift the header. I forgot to say that the combine is a 21A and the truck is a 1940 Chevy. Still have the Chevy today. Picture was taken in the late 40s. Before this, we were using a Case Rosario Special. We farm in MT.

That truck in the picture is no Chevrolet. It is an International KB series.

My neigbor scrapped a fully functional MH21A a couple of years ago when he upgraded to a MF300. Parts were getting rather scarce for the MH21A. The MH21A had an electric motor to lift the head via a roller chain. The electric motor looked like an engine starter motor. We farm in Ontario Canada about 30 miles north of Toronto.

I sure remember the old Massey 21's. The wheel to raise and lower the table (that's what we called the header back then) was on the right side of the seat. As someone mentioned, the real fancy (newer) ones had an electric motor. To compensate for no differential brakes, we used to back the left brake right off so when you stomped on the brake in the field, you got a tight right turn. Sure made for some interesting driving on the road though, especially down steep hills!
