I don't own a gleaner. But when unloading into a parked truck, I leave the header and seperator running if I am going back into the field.

Normally leave the seperator running and turn off the header. AlWAYS!! throttle engine way down before engaging again. Nice thing about a Gleaner; not much metal-to-metal rubbing when the seperator is empty. Ed in Montana

I usually leave the seperator running but shut off the header on my l2 gleaner because i think it is easier on the pittman drive on the left hand side of the header. Definately throttle down before engaging the machine or header again. Brent

We always shut both off. (R-62's) Why waist the hours_wear on the machine. I know on some other brand equipment that there cylinders will get out of ballance if you don't leave the separator kicked in. On the other hand when we ran l2 - l3 machines we seemed to leave the separator in.

My R62 works best if the rotar is left running. I let the header rest (wobble box) when stopped. The rotar gets out of balance and the vibration to the machine until it rebalances is worrisome, so I just leave it run.

I always wonder whats best also. Once the rotor finally gets in balance you hate to shut it down. When I had my F2 with the hand clutch you could sort of ease the seperator in but with the R42 its in soon as you hit the button. Is it best to idle down or give it a little juice before engaging seperatorIJ It's so nice when in balance but I worry that it's hard on something when it's not. Seems like when it balances out it's almost time to unload again.
