What planet are you guys farming onIJ The past 3-4 years have been absolutely fabulous around here. It must be good for others because there are guys driving up and down the road knocking on doors and trying to rent every piece of ground there is. If returns were as bad as earlier posts imply there wouldnt be this tremendous demand for land. Maybe learning how to play the game would be better than throwing good money at every scam that comes along. Tom in MN

Tom, I know what you mean about people trying to rent ground but does that mean there making lots of money ,or trying rent ground because the profit is so low per acre that you have to farm more acresIJ In my area we average 40 bu beans and 120 bu corn, ground rents for 100 to 150 per acre. How much profit is there with these pricesIJ last year my beans avg. 28 bu and corn in the 90 bu. range. But this year we had 45 and 165 so does this year make up for last yearIJ I get, counting no fuel labor or mach. around 125 an acre in corn, that is seed,chemicals,fert.,nit. How, as you said fabulous do you think it has been in my areaIJ Good talking to you , John Ferguson P.S. If you can get that to pencil out let me know because I can't.

John It looks like we will be off the air for a while. The original posts that caught my eye were complaining about prices and not about yields that vary from place to place. The point I was trying to make without getting into a long epistle was that prices are only part of the equation. Total return and net profit are more important. Total return and profit have been good for anyone who has learned to play a game that has changed quite dramatically the past few years. Maybe we can complete the discussion after Dec 4. Tom in MN
