Wheaty, Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone with my comments.Average pay here on harvest in Northern Ireland would be about 6.50_hr ($12.50_hr at 1.00=$1.92 exchange rate) and anybody on harvest here get to sleep in their own beds every night!!! In 2002 I took 15 other guy's with me to work for a large custom cutter on the USA harvest run,In 2003 only 3 of them went back.In 2004 only two of them went back with another 3 harvest "virgins",now I'm told none of them are going back for the 2005 run. We have problems as well getting quality drivers, there are now alot of eastern europeans coming over for temp work from the former "Iron curtain" countries to fill the vacancies. I think its a well know problem in your country and mine that both Agriculture and Trucking have been left behind in the "pay league"!!!!

I think another reason that N.A. cutters use overseas workers is the fact that a temp employee on a H2A harvest visa does not have to pay any tax to IRS,but he has to keep it "quiet" from his own countries tax authority when he gets home.

ReallyIJIJ I did'nt know that. All the people from the south that come up for harvest on their visa have to pay tax. That's interesting about the oversea thing.

CRBINER Yes crbiner what you say it all true the experince a bloke would get overthere is from what i here once in a life time Also what the USA workers would get from the experince of working with overseas workers is also an opportunity coming from different cultrues and teaching how to work( drink ,drive , pick up women an still work the next day) it is somthing that i did enjoy an and the memories will last a life time. Money is not everything (put it helps ) the stuff i did there is no price for it
