Rolf..... How did the crops go for you in Vic last harvest. We had a disastorous Moree run in Nov, where were you when we had that 14 inches of rain. luckily we had most of the machines ( all but 6 ) a little bit down the run. Did you here that around Moree (30 Jan to 3 Feb ) we had falls from 17 inches to 22 inches, boy did that make it bloody sticky.. BOSS 351...

sorry about your crops fella`s but here in SthOz we`ve just had our best ever ;wheat3.6t_ha, barley4.1,canola1.9(46.5%oil) ,peas1.6, lentils2.3 and we will let the north americans figure those numbers for themselves it sure is nice to get a nice `average` season with a good april break and some GSR for a change!!! makes farming feel a lot more satifying!!

If we only had hot dry conditions we maybe never would of monkeyed with machines. If you have tough straw early in the morning or late at night or have tough green wet straw or run very slow cylinder speeds you could benifit. The first thing we did is to install green stem kit which are some helicals that help hook up the thresher helical bars to the seperator helical bars. The next thing we did is shim all the helicals away from cage with 1_4" flat iron that was formed to back side of helical. Double stacking helicals is basically the same as shiming. A step better than shiming helicals is to replace flat iron helicals with channel iron helicals. Gleaner had a channel iron helical kit in the early '80s which was suggested to be used in edible beans and green sunflowers. I sure wish when we had installed for beans we were brave enough to leave it in for all crops for our sales from the l2 days would of never died. Another couple things that helped material move threw cage is replacing reverse bars with forward and installing two more paddles at end of rotor for better discharge. So depending on your conditions you can increase straw flow to whatever you feel would be best for you. We use the louver kit at back of shoe to spread chaff better. We install the dual spreader kit to increase straw spread. I allways watch the engine RPM for monitoring load on engine. Be sure hi idle is proper and then pull down engine as close as comfortable to rated load. With the use of wastegate turbos these days it is getting harder to use boost as a perfect tool to watch power.

thanks Dan! we did the louvre thing 2 seasons ago . can you give a little more info on hydraulic twin spreaderIJ I`ve tried the upgrades link on the left of the screen but all I get is a fairly inactive mod`s forum. Thanks in advance !

Go to tips then click on upgrades and wait awhile to load if you havn't been there yet. I don't know if there is anything on spreaders there though. The Gleaner kit for Hydralic dual spreader for Ns is part number 71347095. I wonder if you could find one in salvage yard. If you have a N6 prior to S_N 3500 with out chopper or N7 prior to 1700 with out chopper you will need a 71354192 also. It is a nice kit but quite spendy for them older machines. Maybe not to bad though when compaired to new machine. I seem to remember someone saying they repositioned single spiner some how to get a better spread. Maybe you should pose that question.
