Combines picking corn with a flex head

We cut a few acres of dwarf corn last year with our 300 direct cut head. Must be careful to keep the reel high so the stalks don't damage it. Also took a lOT of power to run all the fodder through the machine. We had to use the grain head because the ears on the dwarf corn would have gone right through the corn head, even with the stripper plates set close. All in all, it can be done but will be a pain in the arse! Tom langan

We got a good clean sample but had to run slower due to so much more stuff going through the machine. You'll probably see more rotor loss from kernals getting trapped in the fodder - just go slow and let stuff flow through. Good luck! Tom langan

We also cut some dwarf corn a couple of years ago with our 800 flex head. We had drilled the corn and planned on cutting it that way. It made about 70 bushel per acre, up to 100 in spots. Yes you do have to plan on running slower but if you can keep a good constant flow it will work alright. It seem like with the pickup fingers we ran them pretty low, it would break off the top of the corn plant, but would help to push it in better. Kurt
