Combines pickup guards for sawfly damage

We use two differant kinds of metal gaurd extenders. One is german made and not sure who makes the second one. They seem to work the best with spacing them on every fourth guard. If your wheat is down really bad a finger reel will also help lift it up. Have not seen the plastic gaurd extenders so no comment on them. Some headers feed better by leaving the center gaurd extenders off directly in front of the auger. Rocks will get scooped up by these extenders expecially the big flat ones. Dean

Thanks. I have a conventional reel with metal bats. I was kind of currious if the pick up guards would actually knock some of the grain down that was standing up. I heard that on turns it would lay grain over. One guy told me that field corners might have to be cut out firstIJ

You most likly will not be able to turn while cutting. The guard ext. do not like the side ways action. We have cut a x in some fields but most of the time it is up and back. You might find that the grain gets lifted and or feeds better going tippy way or against it and sometimes cutting circles just wont work. Good luck and watch out for those rocks. Dean
