Fill in the area between 4x4 tube in feeder and sprockets. We use 2x4 tube and weld in on the top where you can get at. Sprockets just cleared square tube prior to R50's and after R50's. Major problem was R50's when they decited they wanted tube further away from spockets. If there is a problem with wrapping after filling in that area I would go along with narrowing feeder opening.

Are you filling just the area in front of the sprockets or the complete width of the feeder houseIJ

As close as possible to the whole area across. Can't go full width for you wouldn't be able to sneak the whole piece in there. Install as long of a piece as possible and then center it. You could get more fancy yet and cover in area ahead of anti-wraping shields but I haven't found that necessary. Just filling in area with 2x4 will basically duplicate prior and effective machines and have no problems. Good luck

Dan...What year 50's does this need to be done toIJ Also I read that you talked about a false floor in the feeder house. Do you suggest this and is this the area it is installedIJ Bert

I think all R50 need that area filled in. We haven't had enough trouble to install false floor in R50's. I think the feeder is shorter on R50 than R52 which helps eliminate need for false floor that includes rails to prevent chain from bowing up in heavy going. We have welded in panel flush with bottom of square tube forward and upward toward top of chain to prevent buildup of material in front of square tube. Just welding on some 3_8" keystock on slat at a couple of locations may have accomplished the same thing. We weld on keystock to provide a fairly aggresive edge on top of slat to keep material cleared away from front of square tube.
