Combines Planning to buy 6620

The basic design is the same, so some things are easy to fix, some not. Upgrades from the 4400 will be the hydro, much bigger grain tank, feederhouse reverser, horizontal unloading auger, digital tach, hydraulically adjusted cylinder speed, Dial-a matic, plus other convenience items. Of course, that is more to go wrong, but you won't miss the 4400. For price, depending on location, interest, and condition, I'd say $5-10K.

The price also depends if the head is coming with it. Is the head going to sell separately or with the combine. This makes a big difference.

Not 100% sure on head, probably won't know until auction day-but I do want the grain table as well. Typically in our area the grain table sells with the machine but corn head sells separately.

Maintaning the machine isn't much of an adjustment. There are a few changes, but it is the same basic design, everything is just bigger. It doesn't take long to figure it all out. The biggest differences in running the machine are getting used to no clutch, having the shaft speed monitors to watch, and not coming out of the cab looking like a coal miner.

price of 6620 depends a lot on hours and condition. Dealer near me has an 88 with almost 4000 hours and he is asking 22500. Pay a deere mechanic to inspect the thing and tell you what it will cost to get it into shape. You will probably spend 5-10 grand if it has 3-4000 hours and may not fix it all, so remember that when you are bidding, because the money is just starting to flow once you drive it home. I have one, it has 3700 hrs on it and still runs the same as the day it was new, but I probably have spent 60K on it in repairs if you add it all up over the last 20 years. Good luck.. gs
