Combines Planter Question

Get your dealer to call Gary Hamilton, no one else, first to answer your questions. He is the most experienced man anywhere on planters. He is head of the planter marketing division. I use him unashamedly on situations such as yours. Then let your reps work with you and the dealer and learn as they go. They know the basics but probably have not had in field experience. There are very few GPS systems in use on planters as a percentage. My rep didn't but he is pretty sharp now. Any question Gary doesn't know about GPS - he will put you in touch with the guru at Hesston. We sold one and the planter is super. We have not done the Fieldstar adaptation yet. Get your planter fitted to the tractor in plenty of time and learn the system. It is not that complicated but first time hook up and run will take a couple of hours or more. We had one wire hooked wrong and nearly pull what hair out I had. Silly mistake as we had a cable plugged into itsself. Once in the field the ability to instantly start and stop the planter meters and adjust the rate on the go is tops!

I have it on my white planter. It is amazing what it monitors, shaft speeds, population per row,it shows a map on the screen in the tractor of where you are in the field, how many seeds you planted, you can mark stuff,it tells you where you planted each variety, you just change population from inside the cab,you can test each row running while setting still in the shed, there is alot more things it will do. My dealer knew nothing about it. I just read the book and called the company when I needed help. You will just have to play with it before you go to the field.

I was looking to add a fieldstar to my combine this spring and also use it in the tractor pulling the planter. I have a white 6342 so I realize I cannot use it as a variable rate planter. What I wanted to do was map where I had used different rates of manure last fall and to map where I use different tillage or hybrids. But my dealer said the fieldstar was not able to do that yet. He said if I wanted to do those things I should get an aag leader is this correct.

You would have to upgrade to hydraulic drive and new Monitor. again contact your dealer and get the GPS guys on the 800 number.

You should be able to map about anything you want to. My tractor has a fieldstar sensor installed on the three point hitch and I believe there is sensor for the pto. Just call Fieldstar at 800-201-9618 they will be helpful.

This is not true. If you want to use markers for variety or where manure was applied you can use the Fieldstar terminal with the GPS and scouting harness. Just start a position logging job and set up the markers for whatever you want to keep track of. If you have questions, contact the 800 number.

Thanks, I will give the 800 n a call in the morning. I would really like to give the fieldstar a try if the software and gps isn't to expensive.
