Combines plugged rotor

When my rotor plugged this year it broke the 14 year old rotor drive belt. After installing the new belt the drive sheave was at lowest speed, I opened the concave to 11, shifted to low speed, then engaged with engine at idle. The slug was damp reed canary_cattail grass with some soy beans. Cleared out just like the book says it should.

I opened the concave wide open with the gearbox in low and it choked the engine out just like it did when it first plugged. I hit a patch of green weeds on one side of the header while I was wathcing the other side. The plug was up on top of the cage and really tight. I wandered if I might be able to loosen it with teh drill and bit next time.

Don"t forget to use the gearbox's neutral setting to get the belt to the slowest rotor speed before you reengage in low to get the slug out.

When I plug up the rotor it kills the engine dead. Used needle nose pliers to twist and pull out or remove section of grate. Have you tried the drill trickIJ Does it work goodIJ

It sounds like you better go to combine school 101. If thats how you think you need to unplug a combine you better not be running one.
