Combines Power Efficiency Enhancement of a 1680

Jerry My opinion is that you should be ok with your 820 head, we have a 1680 and run with a 20' 1020 at about 4.5 to 5mph even in green stemed beans. The one thing that I would steer away from is the short seives, their to short for the capacity of the machine, I think that they started making the long seives in 90 or 91 but don't quote me on it.

I think I would lean toward the 1688 if at all possible. I think it has the heavier rotor gear box to handle the extra HP. It's the pick of the litter in my opinion if you can find a clean one, especially one of the last ones. Regardless of what you go with, I would have injection pump tuned up (not neccessarily turned up). Sorry I can't add much on Beans and Corn. However, I would add the FFS air deflector to help minimize the amount of return. Returned grain is simply ineffecient.

I boughta 1990 1680 a year ago and it has the short sieves. I run a 1020 25' platform at 3.5 mph and works good (50-60bpa beans)The long sieves would be nice for corn but I only run a 6rn Ch. At 5mph Iam pushing corn over in the higher yields. A friend had this machine is the reason I bought it. Hope this helps

May I add something about headersIJ I would suggest if you can afford it, purchase a 1020 header over the 820. Two things to consider, the 1020 will cut closer to the ground and will give you a 2-3 bushels increase in yield. Second the auger rotates much slower than the old 820, which I believe will not throw the beans out the front as often. Good luck.
