Combines PTO shaft seal

1680: Yes definitley repair_replace the pto shaft. The pilot bushing is the only thing that supports the inner end of the pto shaft. If there is movement there you likely will have a repeat failure. A machine shop should be able to do the job much cheaper than replacing the shaft. Also while you are in there check your rear crank seal.Which way did you go at the repair - by removing hydro_pto or by removing engineIJ Either way if you are at all doubtful of the crank seal DO IT!!

What a common problem on these machines when they get over 1500 hrs. most certainly replace bushing, and rear main seal, then what I have done is drill a one-eighth inch hole diagonally from the back of the seal counter-bore to the inside of the housing. It keeps that shaft seal from leaking when you get some extra run-out on the pto shaft in future machine hours.Make sure you stress the importance of a accurate shaft build-up to the machine shop, because it sucks to do it twice, let alone on the same machine.
