If you're taking the entire elevator leg out, we went up through the grain tank. If you have a lift tall enough, you can take it out whole. Just take loose at the bottom, take the plates out in the grain tank, and lift up. If doing it by hand, you need to take off the head, upper auger, drop the chain, take off the bottom, etc. This will lighten it up enough that a man in the tank and one on the ground can work it up through the tank. Since ours was worn out completely from cutting rice, we bought an extended wear assembled elevator from CaseIH. It came with the upper auger, elevator chain, drive chain, etc. We borrowed a tall forklift and dropped it in whole from the top. However you do it, it helps to have the tailings elevator off. Hope this helps. Good luck.
