It works use 2" PVC and conduit clamps. It helps feeding so much you will wish you had done it long ago.

Have not heard of this before..could you provide more details pleaseIJ is pvc cut in half or used wholeIJ does it work well in other than beans or do you remove itIJ exact placementIJ Thanks

I have used 1 1_2" PVC on my bean head.I was told that the taller the better,but too big pipe might be too stiff and might interfere with head flex.You use it whole,and hold it down sufficiently so that stems can't work in underneath.It works good by "tripping" the beans as they come off the sickle,and also then the reel gets an extra kick at them to push them toward the auger.

I cut mine every 2 feet but you could probally leave it longer. Used 2" PVC from the scrap pile. Triping the beans over the pipe get them to fall farther back in the head where the real picks them in much smother.

Try using 2" flexible PVC HOSE (as opposed to piping,no need to cut it and its flexs with the cutterbar) and conduit clamps to hold it down. Attach the clamps using the same bolts that hold your knife guards down .Works GREAT !!

forgot to mention.. go over to the gleaner site.. under mods ( i think) theres some pictures to look at. Its a very simple mod and can be done for less then $50 in less then an hour. We use it to improve feeding of short beans as well as stone protection. last year we installed the hose , co-incidently last year was the first year we didnt run a stone thru. ( although i might add a 2pound sledge can do some major damage, but thats a different story lol)

Has anyone also cut milo with the pipe onIJ wonder if the milo heads would tend to fall into the head better and stay away from the sickleIJ

i used 2 1_2 inch reinforced hose. more flexible. main purpose was for stone protection and it works great. Duane

Just get a full length of 2.5" flexible hose (Does not have to be in good shape) not pvc as is more flexible if you run a floating header for soybeans. Go to you local hardware and buy conduit clamps Drill out one end so you can bolt on section. You will not be sorry. I did this on a R5 and will not run with out it. You will find that you are not getting the reel pickup fingers caught in the knive as much either.
