Combines Question for CornKing

Yes you can do it to any red combine that has a turbo on it. I would say probably at least 50% of machines are cranked once you know how to do it it takes about 5 minutes I have never had a machine that was not cranked and I have never worried about fuel usage I want capacity and power. Because if you have the power you will have the capacity. I never had an engine failure yet either. Most of the time my machines are traded around 2000 hrs and are never turned back down. I know where some of them have gone an no problems yet. I think in 2006 you wont be able to crank them any more because of computer fueling. Case is getting smart they will crank them and raise the price 15000.00

Could I do it myself or do I need a Cummins rep and what would I have to do to get the horsepower upIJ

I could tell you how to do it but I would sugest asking a mechanic at a dealer some place to show you. Not that hard. Just take the 4 screws out of the cover on the fuel pump and turn the screw in a turn and a half if it is the 23series if it is the older IH motors you do the same but turn the screw out. The cover has tamper proof screws just take a small chisel and tap counterclockwise and it will loosen I replaced my screw with caps for easy tightning.

Big al I don't really think you want to go a turn and a half! Maybe a half at a time, but who knows I have to keep mine longer than 2000 hours!

I would not be willing to just crank the fuel up either. It is common for the governor to be set like a dog in new machines. By getting that corrected, backing off the aneroid, and advancing the timing, the perfomance might be good enough without changing the rack stopIJ I think there are a lot of combines running with poorly set pumps. It just doesn't cost that much to have you pump set up correctly at shop, in my opinion. With today's fuel price, it's probably free!

I certainly do not care if people set there machines up or not Big Al asked and I responded not promoteing just stating the facts and my goveners have all been set correctly I like power and I will have it if I can, if other people our happy with there power great I was not now I am. We even found a way to get around it on STXs but I will let it go at that.You will seesome 600hps STXs.. If you really want to know most every 2388 on wheat harvest is cranked this is not rumer it is fact but dont beleive me it makes me know difference.
